Amie’s Training and Qualifications

The Bowlby Centre, London – Clinical Attachment Based Psychoanalytical Training
Regents University, London – Foundation in Psychotherapy and Counselling

Amie’s training started with a foundation at Regents university then followed by taking some time to review and research the different trainings that London has to offer and which one resonated with her and that she felt she could work with and felt excited by – which led Amie to join the four year Attachment Based Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy training to become a UKCP registered attachment based psychotherapist (ABPP) with underpinning from the pioneer John Bowlby.

Like many of us, Amie has multiple interests, having had a career in the arts and maintains an interest here whilst the psychotherapeutic practice remains Amie’s priority.

Amie practice’s under the UKCP’s Ethic’s and is in regular supervision.

Here are some of the areas that Amie can offer a space to explore:

  • Relationship difficulties
  • Loss
  • Bereavement
  • Impact of Trauma and abuse
  • Anxiety
  • Phobias
  • Depression
  • Addiction
  • Disordered Eating
  • Self Harming

This is to list just a few areas that we see people bring to our spaces, but please do not feel that this is restrictive or prescriptive.

What to Expect

A steady, welcoming and warm space – you may arrive with a clear idea of what you would like to bring into the room, or you may not – both are welcomed.

As per our experiences and lives outside of the therapeutic room, our priorities can shift and move, so we may find ourselves visiting different areas, thoughts, feelings depending on your external environment, or in more normal terms – what is going on for you in that moment. We are here to facilitate your exploration, and to build a relationship that offers the support required to maintain an exploration.

FAQs

Whilst counselling shares many of the attributes of Psychotherapy, and we can get a little distracted by the use of language and terminology, counselling often can be shorter term – psychotherapy as we practice it, works on the relational elements as a base for the work.

We require a minimum of two weeks’ notice for any planned absence, with two complimentary sessions given for the purpose of holidays every six months (anything additional will be charged for to hold the space for you).

In the case of emergencies, should they arise, these will be dealt with on a case-by-case basis. We will also advise that, where possible we will offer to reschedule sessions as to not disrupt the consistency of our work.

Whilst we do not ask clients to sign a term contract, we ask for a minimum of four week’s notice in ending our work, this is to ensure there is a sufficient time for an appropriate and managed conclusion to our work.

Therapists have holidays too, and understand the importance of time away from the day to day – however that may look. Ordinarily, the month of August is taken as holiday by the therapist – this will be agreed client by client. In addition, where absence on the therapist’s part is required, we will look to offer an alternative date/time.

Our priority is always to preserve the sanctity of our relationship, however you should be aware that under the law, psychotherapists are required to breach client confidentiality and inform the relevant authorities in some circumstances (see below). If for any reason this becomes an issue within your therapy, this is something we would talk through in detail.

Circumstances in which statutory requirements might require a therapist to share information:

  • You disclose that you are at risk of carrying out serious harm to yourself or others
  • You make me aware of a minor being harmed and that there are issues that invoke the law as it relates to child protection
  • You make me aware of matters relating to an act of terrorism
  • A request is made by the authorities in the context of legal proceedings

What is Attachment based psychoanalytical psychotherapy?

Attachment-based psychoanalytical psychotherapy focuses on understanding how early relationships and attachment styles influence an individual’s emotional well-being and interpersonal dynamics. This therapeutic approach examines the connections formed in childhood with primary caregivers and how these relationships shape patterns of behaviour, self-perception, and emotional responses in adulthood. Some call it our emotional

blueprint, what we learnt and integrated in our childhood/youth and we can sometimes come to understand that these blueprints need some updating or integrating, and sometimes are fine as they are. Talking therapy, also known as psychotherapy or counselling, can offer numerous benefits for individuals seeking to improve their mental health and overall well-being. Here are some reasons you may consider engaging in talking therapy:

Emotional Support

Emotional Support: Talking therapy provides a safe and confidential space where individuals can express their thoughts and feelings without judgment, helping to alleviate feelings of isolation or loneliness.

Self-Exploration

Self-Exploration: Therapy encourages deeper self-reflection, enabling individuals to better understand their thoughts, emotions, and behaviours. This can lead to greater self-awareness and insights into personal patterns and challenges.

Improved Relationships

Improved Relationships: By exploring interpersonal dynamics and attachment styles in therapy, individuals can develop healthier communication skills, resolve conflicts, and improve their relationships with others.

Healing Trauma

Healing Trauma: Talking therapy can facilitate the processing of traumatic experiences, allowing individuals to work through their pain and move toward healing and integration.

Personal Growth

Personal Growth: Therapy offers a pathway for personal development, encouraging clients to set goals, make positive changes, and build resilience.

Non-Judgmental Environment

Non-Judgmental Environment: Unlike conversations with friends or family, therapy is conducted in a professional and confidential setting, allowing individuals to explore sensitive topics openly.

Empowerment

Empowerment: Engaging in therapy can empower individuals to take control of their mental health and work toward living a more fulfilling and meaningful life.
